Consistent with University of La Verne’s history and values orientation, the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Philosophy/Religious Studies. A minor is available in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or Interfaith Studies. Philosophy courses challenge students to look seriously at the philosophical traditions which have helped to shape our world views. Religious Studies courses offer the opportunity to explore religion and religious values in a critical, academic context. The Interfaith Studies minor offers students opportunities to think critically about their own evolving worldview within a pluralistic context. In all courses, emphasis is upon critical thinking and evaluation of a broad range of views with the goal of refining one’s own perspectives. Students interested in serving as ministers or as religious leaders in their communities can pursue a degree in Philosophy/Religious Studies.
