Reading Certificate

Admission Requirements 

  1. Statement of Purpose: Write a statement of purpose addressing the following points: your reasons for pursuing the reading certificate, any personal or professional experiences and/or qualifications related to this field of study, and your perspectives on the relevance and role of cultural competence in teaching. Your statement should be approximately 500-words in length and typewritten.  
  2. Prerequisite California teaching credential.  It should be either a Preliminary or Clear Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist Credential with an English Learner Authorization. 
  3. Verification of three years successful, full-time teaching experience, excluding student teaching, intern teaching or teaching on an emergency or other teaching permit (e.g. PIP or STSP.) Verification of teaching experience should be from the human resources office on school district letterhead.
